Northern Nepal flood: communities we have served now face a long recovery.

Our long-term commitment

See the work

Healthcare, one step at a time.

Follow a Nepal-led team as it brings eye care, hearing and throat care, bone and joint care, dentistry, women’s health, children’s care and general medicine to a remote Himalayan community.

Our mission

Distance should not decide who receives care.

Ek Ek Paila means “one step at a time.” That is how care reaches Nepal’s most isolated communities: one volunteer, one journey and one patient at a time.

Friends of Ek Ek Paila is the US nonprofit supporting this Nepal-led work. Medical teams collaborate with local governments, health posts and hospitals, then return when patients need treatment, surgery or follow-up care.

How the model works

Ten years of steps

Care measured in people, not miles.

35,385+patients served
78,162+consultations
33major outreach camps
12+areas of care

Reported by Ek Ek Paila Foundation, 2025.

The work

A complete chain of care.

A health camp is not a single clinic day. It begins with local need and continues through treatment, referral and follow-up.

01

Comprehensive health camps

Volunteer teams travel with medicines, testing equipment and experienced clinicians to communities that may be days from a hospital.

Eye care · Ear, nose and throat care · Dental care · Women’s health · Children’s care
02

Treatment and surgery

People receive treatment at the camp and, when needed, are connected with surgery, hospital care and a safe path home.

Vision-restoring surgery · Dental procedures · Bone and joint care · Referrals
03

Care that continues

Local health workers and partner hospitals help patients receive follow-up care while each camp strengthens the community’s health network.

A long road ahead

The map has changed. The mission has not.

The August 26 flood devastated communities across northern Nepal, including villages that have hosted Ek Ek Paila health camps. Recovery will take years. The relationships and health network built in these communities will remain vital as families rebuild their lives.
